This Expert Talk will be hold in English.

Topic

This masterclass explores posterior ankle pain in depth, starting with the relevant bony, capsular, ligamentous, and tendinous structures and their role in common pain mechanisms in sport and dance.

You will gain an overview of the spectrum of posterior ankle pathologies, including:

  • posterior impingement

  • tendon-related pathologies

  • joint and capsular involvement

  • as well as the co-existence of multiple pathologies, which can complicate diagnosis

A central focus is on differential diagnosis: not all symptoms in the posterior ankle region are related to the Achilles tendon. Multiple clinical patterns can produce very similar symptoms, yet require different therapeutic approaches.

In addition, we will look at imaging options and typical findings, discuss the role and limitations of medical interventions (e.g. injections and surgical procedures), and show how this information can be integrated into a structured differential diagnostic process.

By the end of this masterclass, you will have a structured, evidence-based framework to better understand posterior ankle pain and to more confidently interpret clinical presentations, imaging findings, and medical assessments – even before applying specific hands-on treatment techniques.
